Technology Accessibility and Inclusion

The Department of Heath and Human Services is hosting the first annual Technology Accessibility and Inclusion Conference (a11y@HHS) on May 7th in Silver Spring, Maryland. Over 300 are expected to attend this one-day event, where they will visit sessions and an exhibit hall, and network with industry peers. The conference goal is to broaden the dialog concerning accessibility and inclusion.

The conference is aimed at employees of the Department of Health and Human Services, as well as its Operating Divisions. "Sessions will cover acquisitions planning, emerging assistive technologies; web accessibility; enterprise accessibility compliance monitoring; technology/methods for workplace inclusion and education; and legal ramifications, accessible conferences, and experiences of persons with disabilities in the HHS workforce."

Deque is thrilled to be a part of this event, and will be presenting a session called "Enhancing 508 Compliance through the use of Accessibility Software," from 2:30-3:15. If you are attending this conference, be sure to stop by our table in the exhibit hall.

For over fifteen years, Deque has been helping major corporations, government agencies, and other organizations ensure that their websites and mobile apps are accessible to everyone. We have more than fifteen years of history of serving the federal government, including undertaking the biggest accessibility program that's occurred in the United States government or anywhere. Deque also works with .edu's and mission-focused nonprofits to ensure that their materials and systems are usable and barrier free for users with disabilities. The company invented the first accessibility plug-in software, the first web-based testing platform, and the first server-based accessibility solution. All of these have been created in the service of helping our customers become accessible, advance the goals of their organization, and remove barriers for all users on the web.
