The intersection of AI and accessibility

Deque’s Vice President of Sales, APAC, Abin Roy Choudhury, was a featured speaker at the summit. In his session, “The Intersection of AI and Accessibility: A New Era for Digital Banking,” Abin emphasized that accessible banking should be a core value, not an afterthought. He highlighted that banking is a fundamental need for everyone, including People of Determination, and that digital platforms must reflect this by being inclusive by design.

Abin also addressed the common misconception that you can get compliant by using accessibility widgets as a quick fix. He pointed out that while widgets might seem like an easy answer, they often fail to make platforms genuinely accessible. “Widgets can create a false sense of compliance,” he said. “True accessibility requires embedding inclusive practices into the design, development, and testing processes from the ground up. It’s about building systems that work for everyone, not just applying a Band-Aid.”

Abin’s insights resonated deeply with the audience, sparking conversations about the need for a more thoughtful and sustainable approach to digital accessibility in banking.

What’s next?

This recognition inspires us to continue driving positive change. We’re excited to collaborate with more organizations in the Middle East and beyond to build a digital future that includes everyone.

Whether you’re a financial institution, a tech innovator, or simply passionate about accessibility, let’s work together to create a more inclusive digital world.

Here’s to many more achievements ahead!

You need to build accessibility into how AI writes code from the first prompt, not fix it after the fact. And because the disability community has been perfecting human-computer interaction for different input and output modalities for decades, their expertise isn't just morally important; it's technically essential for building robust, reliable AI that actually works.
