As Senior Standards and Monitoring Officer with the National Disability Authority’s Centre for Excellence in Universal Design (CEUD), Dónal heads up the National Monitoring Body for the EU Web Accessibility Directive. Previously Dónal worked as a senior Universal Design advisor with the CEUD and as the first Public Sector Equality and Human Rights Duty Manager with the Irish Human Rights Equality Commission.

He has led the development of national and international guidelines, standards, policy, education, and technical projects with the NDA, European Commission, and UN agencies such as UNESCO and the ITU. Dónal has been an evaluator of FP6, FP7, and more recently Horizon 2020 R&D projects for the European Commission.

He is an associate lecturer on human rights and equality with the Institute of Public Administration and holds Masters Degrees in both Computer Science and Law.

In his spare time, Dónal is a coach in the national game of hurling, has recently return to playing golf after a hiatus of 30 years, and keeps his hand in with development through creating accessible e-learning courses.
