Shift-up Accessibility: An Effective Accessibility Governance Framework for Leaders

This session presents “Shift-up Accessibility” as a framework that helps organizational leaders adopt accessibility governance as a strategic imperative to manage accessibility risks and opportunities as a business priority without losing the human-first spirit behind it.  The framework provides an architecture for accessibility governance and some customized approaches to implementation.

Based on the unique cultural fabric of each organization, this framework will help situate accessibility as a shared, proactive responsibility across the organization. It will help ease up the pressures and burnout in the middle levels arising out of repetitive engagement in compliance-focused activities. Acknowledging and adopting this path would give leadership the power to create a transformational shift in their organization’s accessibility practice to achieve new business outcomes that also benefit the communities they serve.
