Description

In this session, we will continue our exploration of practical approaches and essential strategies for creating accessible digital experiences. You can watch my session from last year here: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=2OH4cssGgI0
Building on the fundamentals, this session will dive deeper into structural accessibility principles that help users navigate and understand your content more effectively.
Key topics include:
  • Headings & Hierarchical Structure: Learn how to create a clear and logical heading structure that helps all users navigate your content efficiently. We’ll cover how proper heading levels create a roadmap for screen reader users, why skipping heading levels can cause confusion, and how to use design tools to communicate heading hierarchy to developers—ensuring both visual design and semantic structure work together.
  • Landmarks & Regions: Discover how to organize page content using landmarks and regions to provide screen reader users with essential navigational shortcuts. We’ll walk through the different types of landmarks (navigation, main content, complementary information, etc.) and show you practical ways to annotate these regions in your designs, helping developers implement the correct semantic HTML or ARIA roles without guesswork.
  • Alternative Text Best Practices: We’ll discuss strategies for writing effective alt text that provides meaningful context for images, icons, and visual elements. Learn when to write descriptive alt text, when to keep it concise, and when to mark decorative images as such—plus practical methods for documenting alt text directly in your design files to ensure nothing gets lost in translation.
By the end of this webinar, you will have expanded your accessibility toolkit with structural techniques that improve navigation, comprehension, and usability for all users, regardless of ability.
Join us to make your designs inclusive and accessible for everyone!
