Linux System Administrator

Full-time position in Ann Arbor, MI

Position Description

Deque Systems is seeking a Linux Systems Admin to set up and maintain local and cloud-based Linux servers. The ideal candidate is detail-oriented and has previous experience with Linux system administration.

Primary Responsibilities

  • Install and manage the configuration and operation of cloud-based servers and supporting assets
  • Install and upgrade applications in our cloud environment
  • Monitor and respond to security concerns
  • Monitor performance and take corrective action
  • Create and verify backups of data
  • Write and maintain automated scripts to automate SysAdmin and installation tasks


  • Associate or higher degree in a related field or equivalent work experience
  • A minimum of 3 years experience with Linux system administration

  • AWS
  • Docker
  • Availability and performance monitoring tools
  • Security scanning and monitoring tools
  • Web servers (Nginx preferred), application servers (Java-based) and databases (MySQL)
  • Network setup, management, and troubleshooting skills, including Internet, wireless, firewalls, proxies, and VPNs

Working Conditions

This position primarily works during normal business hours, but after hours support may be needed occasionally. Travel is not expected though possible in limited cases.

Physical Requirements

There will be a limited need to lift heavier objects, such as placing servers or networking equipment into racks or moving computer assets in the office.
