Welcome to Deque Ramp. Ramp is a desktop validation tool for Section 508 and W3C Priority 1, 2, and 3. Ramp is the leading cross-platform solution today for testing and remediating websites and Web based applications for integrated accessibility. Using Ramp you can easily analyze all individual pages of a website, find the compliance errors, and easily fix each error automatically or through answering a few simple questions. No matter what operating system you use, weather Microsoft Windows 2000, Windows XP, Macintosh OSX, Linux or Unix, Ramp will look and act the same. Its written in java, a programming language designed for creating cross-platform applications. The Ramp interface consists of program areas such as, the menu bar, the icon bar, the URL bar, the site panel, the source code/Image view panel, and the violations panel.

You will notice that when Ramp first starts, there is an empty site node in the site panel called New Site 1. You can rename this node by triple-clicking on it, typing in the new site name, and hitting enter. For our purposes here, I will rename this one "demo".

The next step is to set your accessibility level. This determines at what compliance level you want to test your Web page. To do this, select the Tools menu in the menu bar, and select Accessibility Options. This will open a window where you can customize and select your accessibility levels including weather you are testing for Section 508, W3C or both. You can see that Ramp has a clear distinction between the Section 508 guidelines and the W3C guidelines. While the Accessibility Options window is still open, under the spidering tab, you have the option of selecting certain vurtual directories that will not be analyzed when Ramp spiders through the website. Under the Analysis and Remediation tabs, you can further tweak your accessibility. You can choose from individual tasks, select all, unselect all, or set default. For this Demonstration I will select Section 508 Compliance level with default settings. After the accessibility level is set click ok.

Now enter the URL you would like to test in the URL bar.

After you set the accessibility level and set which site you would like to validate, you are now ready to analyze the Web page. To do this, simply click on the Analyze button in the upper right part of the window.

After Ramp is done analyzing the Web page, you will notice a red "X" next to the sites URL in the site bar. Clicking on the address will bring up any violations Ramp found as well as the code associated with the violations. This is where you can go through each violation and fix the compliance issues. As you can see with the first violation, any issue involving an image will show the image in question in the Image view panel. Some violations have known, standard fixes and can be easily fixed by pressing the autofix button. Once all the violations are fixed, that red "X" next to the URL will change to either a blue plus sign or a green check. a blue plus sign indicates that there are interactive checks that need answering. Interactive checks asks questions and provides easy multiple choice answers to help make your site compliant with todays accessibilty standards. to view interactive checks, simply click the View menu in the menu bar and select interactive checks. You will notice the Interactive Checks panel appears under the site panel. You can view all of the questions by clicking on the arrow buttons on the left side of the done button. after you finish answering all the questions, hit the done button. If everything was done properly, you will notice there is now a green check mark next to the URL in the site panel. This site is now compliant! you can view the certificate by going to reports and clicking on violation status. That gold stamp means this site is now compliant with Section 508 and W3C standards. This concludes the video tutorial of Deque's Ramp product line.
